Before the EDSA Revolution, we struggled for freedom. And when EDSA was won, we were those who nurtured the dream of peace. We also dreamed of a better economy, as the Philippines was during the days when Diosdado Macapagal was President and the Philippines was second only to Japan among all Asian economies. So we continued to work for the economic upliftment of this country. At the same time, we realized the need for a re-evaluation of our present moral values. We cannot stand in favor of development at the expense of moral depravity.
We believe that a sustained economic development guided by an upright set of principles is what this country needs for the future. This goal can only be achieved if the political and economic liberties that we so dearly fought for at EDSA can be sustained and further enhanced.
In our opinion, the guardian of these freedoms, and ultimately, of our future as well, lies in the hands of the leaders of this nation. We believe that it is every Filipinos' duty and obligation to decide whom among these leaders is best suited to respond to our needs. It is our conviction that the efforts that we undertake today that determine the future of this country are the answer to all of our dreams and aspirations.
Most of all, we stand constant in our goal of making a better Philippines for every Filipino.
WHO ARE WE?
We are the enlightened Filipino. We are the new breeds of Filipinos who want the blessings of peace and prosperity for all. We are today's generation and tomorrow's future. We are friends to those who fight poverty and injustice and to those who advance this country's democratic and economic gains. We associate ourselves to those who have an understanding of what this country can truly be and the steps needed to achieve this goal.
We choose to be friends of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo because we share the same aspirations for our people and country. Like her, we care for the oppressed, the downtrodden, the needy, and the destitute. We aim to follow in her footsteps to provide a caring and guiding hand, especially to those most neglected by the current society. Like her as well, we cannot tolerate the demoralization of our country in the guise of development. We envision a just, free, equitable and responsive Philippines in the future.
WHAT WE WANT:
As we approach the 21st century, we are confronted with this challenge: What kind of leader do we want to lead us to the 21st century? According to the prestigious Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted last December 1996, the No.1 problem of the Philippines today is ECONOMY. And according to this same survey, the No. 1 problem in the year 2000 is still the economy.
Consequently, the answer to the perennial economic problem can be found in the sound policies and principles of those who lead us. A leader who has shown a sterling track record in economics and management has what it takes to lead this country. Just as important as economic know-how, we need a leader with compassion, humility, resourcefulness, perseverance, and identity with all sectors of the Filipino community.
Rounding all of these qualities that will make for a truly great leader for the Philippines, there remains no doubt to us as to who possesses such traits. A leader with substance and at the same time, heart and soul to guide all efforts is present in our society today. Our belief for the future of this country is embodied in the person of GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO.
